A Silent Day of Presence Meditation
Date to be confirmed in Winter 2026
Tanja Hall
This is a practice of gentle guided movement and yoga to develop awareness of the body and calm the mind, alternating with sessions of seated meditation.
This is a Dana/Donation day so there is no charge other than your generosity at the end of the day. To register please send an email to Mary bvimeditation@gmail.com
Silence
All retreats and practices are held in Noble Silence. While the teacher will instruct with talks, and guided meditation, participants are encouraged to practice in silence during all meditation and daily activities . People are asked to refrain from using mobile phones or other communication devices as they can cause much distraction. There are opportunities for Q & A and meeting with the teacher.
Dana
None of our teachers receive payment for their time and teachings, rather they have chosen the ancient tradition of offering the Dharmma freely and trusting in the generosity of those who receive it, to support them to continue their teachings. There is no correct amount to offer as dana or donation, as each meditator is free to offer according to their individual circumstances. Payments for the retreat are needed to cover accommodation, caterers, food and teachers travel costs.
Registration
Intensive meditation practice in this style is a powerful experience. It is necessary for the teachers to have a clear background for each person attending so that they can offer the most supportive guidance possible. You will be requested to fill out a Retreat Application Form on your arrival. Only the teachers will have access to this information. If you are currently receiving treatment for any psychological or psychiatric disorder, or have a past history of mental health disorder, you should obtain professional advice prior to participating in the retreat.
Meals
Nutritious vegetarian meals are provided by our dedicated caterers who can accommodate dairy free and gluten free if requested. Breakfast and lunch are the two main meals of the day with a light supper in the evening.
What To Bring
Comfortable clothes, slip on shoes, meditation cushion or kneeler [some chairs are provided as well as some cushions and ground chairs]. and a yoga mat. You will need to bring alarm clock, bed linen, towel and toiletries. It is helpful to bring raincoat, sunhat and clothes for both warm and cold weather.
Practice
Most meditation sits are 45 mins alternating with walking meditation or meetings with the teacher. Gentle, mindfulness Yoga is often taught at the beginning of each day and is optional.
TITHING AND SPONSORSHIP
BVIM has a tradition of donating to charities annually should there be a well supported retreat. The committee decides at each AGM which causes to support.
For those who are financially struggling, there are discounts and part payments available so that the dhamma is available to all those who wish to attend. Please enquire if this situation applies to you.
